BEE’S LED Village Campaign Scheme in Assam  

Nation’s first village under BEE’s LED Village Campaign Scheme inaugurated at Makumpathar No.4 village at Tinsukia district in Assam on 7 th July 2010. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Government of India launched the LED Village campaign to convert existing incandescent bulbs in the households and street lights of one village with LEDs with an objective to showcase the new technology for lighting using LED (Light Emitting Diode) so that a comparison can be demonstrated between LED and incandescent lamps.

Makumpathar No. 4 village was selected to cover under the project in Assam and 100 LED street lights fitted in place of existing street lamps in the village and 2 to 3 nos. of 6W LED lamps were distributed among the electricity consumers of the village.

Shri Pradyut Bordoloi, Hon’ble Minister Power, Assam inaugurated the project in a function held at the village on 7 th July 2010. LED lamps were distributed among consumers on the day of inauguration by the Hon’ble Minister, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Margherita, Chief Electrical Inspector-cum-Adviser and President of the Gaon Panchayat.

The function was largely attended by various officials of Government, APDCL, Inspectorate of Electricity and others including the villagers.

The project was implemented by the Chief Electrical Inspector-Cum-Adviser, Assam who is also the State Designated Agency under the Energy Conservation Act 2001 in Assam.

Demo project of LED street lighting at Dibrugarh:
   

A Demo Project under fund assistance from Bureau of Energy Efficiency was successfully completed at Dibrugarh town replacing existing 150W Sodium Vapour & 85W CFL street lights with 50 W LED Street lights at the road section between Phulbagan to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh District covering about 3.15Km.

More than 50% energy savings will be achieved due to installation of the energy efficient LED lamps. Automatic timer switches have also been provided to reduce further energy wastage.

Awareness Training Programme on Energy Audit in buildings in Guwahati

A two days ‘Awareness Training Programme on Energy Audit in buildings’ was held at the conference hall of Hotel Pragati Manor, G.S.Road, Guwahati on 25 th & 26 th September 2008 under EU-EISEEI project, in association with National Productivity Council. More than 30 participants from various organizations like PWD, ASEB, APGCL, AEGCL, NF Railways, IOCL, Jorhat Engineering College, APPL and Energy Auditors from various organizations attended the training programme along with SDA personnel and ECAT members. The training programme was primarily aimed for Energy Audit in Buildings.

DI Wolfgang Weissel, MD, Centric-Austria and Mr. A.K. Sinha, Regional Director, NPC, Kolkata gave presentations on Building Energy Audit, Energy Audit in Electrical System, Energy Audit for Lighting System, Energy Audit for Refrigeration and Air conditioning, Pumps etc.

The said training programme was a part of EU-EISEEI project sponsored by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency , GOI and its EU partners, Centric and Adelphi, Germany.

A national Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Energy Efficiency-Oppornuties and Challenges’ held at Guwahati at on 17 th and 18 th October 2008.

A national Seminar on ‘Emerging Trends in Energy Efficiency-Oppornuties and Challenges’ organized by the Institution of Engineers (India), Assam State Centre and Chief Electrical Inspector-Cum-Adviser, Government of Assam (State designated Agency under EC Act for the State of Assam) on 17 th and 18 th October 2008.

The inaugural session was chaired by Shri A.K. Mitra, Chairman, the Institution of Engineers ( India), Assam State Centre. The Hon’ble Power and Industries Minister, Assam, Shri Pradyut Bordoloi was the Chief Guest of the event and Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Shri C.K. Das, IAS, Chairman, Assam State Electricity Board were Guest of Honours.

In the inaugural session, Shri S. Barooa, Chief Electrical Inspector-Cum-Adviser, Government of Assam presented the welcome address and Shri D. Pawan Kumar, Group Head & Director (EM), NPC, New Delhi delivered the keynote address. In the technical sessions presentations on EC Act, 2001, Standard & Labeling Programme, Gas Turbine air inlet cooling, prospects and challenges of Direct methanol Fuel Cells, Energy Efficiency in Air Conditioning system for building design, Energy Efficiency in lighting system, Climate responsive building design in North East, Green Buildings, Energy Efficiency in Industrial sector and profit through Energy Audit were made by speakers from various organisations.
